Olivia Heaton produced a superb performance to win the prestigious Scottish Darts Association Spring Singles Girls title at the CISWO in Glenrothes, claiming valuable WDF Gold ranking points in the process.
The event attracted a strong field, including current world number two Ruby Grey, who made a late decision to travel north for the tournament. With Grey seeded number one and Olivia Heaton seeded number two, the stage was perfectly set for a blockbuster final between the two top contenders.
Heaton was in outstanding form throughout the day. Dominating Group B, she won all three of her matches without dropping a single leg. Victories over Lilly-Anne Crosbie, Chloe Sutherland and Brooke Harvey saw Olivia top the table comfortably and underline her title credentials.
Meanwhile, Grey topped Group A after defeating Daisy-May Duffy and Lucie Bayne to book her place in the knockout stages.
The highly anticipated final certainly lived up to expectations. In a thrilling contest where every leg went with the throw, the match went all the way to a deciding seventh leg locked at 3-3.
Olivia looked set to take the title after reaching a finish first in the deciding leg, but missed her opportunity on the doubles, allowing Grey a chance to snatch victory. The world number two was unable to capitalize, however, and Heaton held her nerve brilliantly to pin double two with her final dart and secure a dramatic 4-3 victory.
The final showcased Olivia at her very best, firing in four ton-plus scores and four excellent 140s under pressure against one of the top-ranked girls in the world game.
The victory earns Heaton 180 WDF ranking points and marks one of the biggest wins of her young career so far, defeating the world number two in a high-quality final to lift a WDF Gold title.
Olivia’s performances across the tournament demonstrated both consistency and composure, with the English youngster producing some outstanding darts on the big stage in Glenrothes.
